Drabble 6: Fireworks (The Cosmic Trio)

The party seemed to be reaching its optimus prime, and everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves. Everyone, it seemed, except for their host.

Excusing herself under the pretence of needing a lie down, Lady Milky Way retreated to her bedroom, and heaved a sigh.

Looking out over her fancy gardens, a single tear streamed down her face and fell onto the windowsill.

"I should really be out there with them, having fun, but I can't seem to summon the strength to. It may be wonderful for now, but what will happen when they get older? They'll forget all about their poor mama and drift away. Some will die, and others will fade from public view."

Mournfully, she thought of all of her beloved children.

Darling Sol, such a terror as a child, grown into a charming and handsome adult.
Little Mercury, always a sensitive and delicate child.
Headstrong Venus. Happy-go-lucky Earth. Excitable Mars. Sweet and strong Jupiter. Silent Saturn. Quirky Uranus. Bashful Neptune. Shy Pluto.
Those funny Galileans, especially Sweetie Ganymede and Feisty Io. Snarky yet Adorable Titan.

To put it simply, she loved them all, and appreciated their company. A brusque knock on the door followed by it opening brought her to her senses.

"Hey, old hag. I knew something was up - you're usually the life and soul of the party."

Lady Milky Way tutted in an affectionate manner as Black Hole bounced into the room, followed by Mr.Universe, relying heavily on his walking stick.

"Ms. Milky Way, it would be an honour to both I and Black Hole if you were to watch the New Year's fireworks with us up here."

Filled with deep love for her two dearest companions, Milky Way linked her arm with Black Hole's left, and held Mr.Universe's right hand, as the fireworks began.

"No matter what happens, we will always be together, you, I and he."
